Fundación Comunitaria Oaxaca

Established in 1996, the Fundación Comunitaria Oaxaca was founded thanks to the commitment of local partners and the financial support of several leading international funders including The International Youth Foundation, The W.K. Kellogg Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Inter-American Foundation and The Ford Foundation, among others.  FCO’s mission is to promote the participation of society for improving the well being and standard of living for the marginalized and vulnerable groups of the Oaxacan community, through initiatives that generate fundamental and long lasting changes.

Over the past decade, the Fundación Comunitaria Oaxaca has made remarkable achievements in supporting the initiatives of Oaxaca based nonprofits in the areas of health, education, capacity building, as well as technical and financial assistance. As a result of its accomplishments, FCO has won several prestigious awards from international and national institutions including The Mexican Center of Philanthropy (CEMEFI).  Since 1997, the Fundación Comunitaria Oaxaca has directly obtained and re-granted more than $5 million dollars, and has mobilized more than approximately $13  million dollars, generating a total social investment of $18 million dollars over the past ten years for the benefit of social development in Oaxaca.  Striving to promote transparency, FCO operates under generally accepted accounting principles and is independently audited on an annual basis by Delloite & Touche.  Click here to learn more about the Fundación Comunitaria Oaxaca.

Ford Foundation

The Ford Foundation is a resource for innovative people and institutions worldwide. Their goals are: (1) Strengthen democratic values; (2) Reduce poverty and injustice; (3) Promote international cooperation; and (4) Advance human achievement.  Created with gifts and bequests by Edsel and Henry Ford, the Foundation is an independent organization, with its own board, and is entirely separate from the Ford Motor Company.  Since its inception it has been an independent, nonprofit, nongovernmental organization. The trustees of the foundation set policy and delegate authority to the president and senior staff for the foundation’s grant making and operations. Program officers in the United States, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America and Russia explore opportunities to pursue the foundation’s goals, formulate strategies and recommend proposals for funding.  Click here to learn more about the Ford Foundation.
